Shanklin in Isle of Wight

With its glorious wide stretch of golden sands set against a backdrop of dramatic sandstone cliffs, Shanklin is one of the Isle of Wight's best known resorts and visitors will find a whole range of activities and attractions, whatever your age or interests.

The lovely sandy beach that stretches for miles and safe bathing waters make Shanklin a particular favourite for families. The Isle of Wight's oldest tourist attraction, Shanklin Chine, dates back to 1817. This famous leafy gorge is a magical place for rare plants, wildlife and enchanting waterfalls. Another popular place to stroll or sit and soak up the sunshine is Rylstone Gardens and whilst there, be sure to look out for the extensive programme of events at the bandstand within the gardens. Lose yourself in the history and character of Shanklin Old Village which is packed with picture-postcard thatched cottages, many of which now house quirky gift shops and enticing tea rooms.

Shanklin is packed full of great places to eat and drink, whether you're looking for some traditional pub grub, family-run restaurants and pizzerias or simply fish and chips along the seafront, there's an eatery for everyone in this bustling town. If time allows take in a show at Shanklin Theatre, which originally opened in 1874, where the variety of entertainment offered over the years includes music, comedy and theatre to ballet, circus and even wrestling.
