St Martin's in Isles of Scilly

When crossing from the mainland by air or sea St Martin's is the first island you see thanks to its distinctive red and white striped Daymark. Once you set foot on the island you'll discover miles of golden beaches, many interesting walks, several places to eat and drink along with plenty of arts, crafts and things to do.

While St Martin's may be only two miles long, it has some of the finest beaches in the British Isles, if not the world. Feel the sand between your toes at Bread and Cheese Cove, Great Bay or Little Bay, delve into the rock pools at Lawrence's Bay, launch into the iridescent seas lapping Par Beach, or, if you're up for a bit of adventure, then the clear waters also present some of the finest diving in the world and you can even go snorkelling with playful wild Atlantic grey seals!

World-class beaches are by no means the only reason to visit this welcoming island. The heathery cliff path walks offer breathtaking vistas and the chance to gaze upon seabirds, there's a flower farm and vineyard as well as a wonderful gallery showcasing local artists. Alternatively, grab a picnic, hire a kayak and paddle to one of the many deserted islands surrounding St Martin's for your own Robinson Crusoe experience.

The outdoor life is bound to induce a healthy appetite and there are plenty of places to indulge in tasty local cuisine, be it a cream tea, a cracking lunch or hearty pub grub.
