Sitting proudly in the heart of St Peter Port the OGH, as it is affectionately known, is Guernsey’s only five star hotel and offers breathtaking views out over the capital, the harbour and across the water to the islands beyond. Part of the highly regarded Red Carnation Hotel Collection, it sits just up the hill from the main shopping street and a mere five minutes stroll from the picturesque quayside. As far as sustainability goes, the OGH is phasing out single-use plastics, reducing food waste and supporting the local community in a variety of green initiatives. (Read more)
Originally the official residence of the island’s Governor, the OGH became a hotel in 1858 and is a gracious blend of both old and new with elegant furnishings and thoughtful touches throughout. It’s a wonderful environment in which to relax and recharge with a beautiful pool taking centre stage outdoors, while inside the luxurious spa facilities include treatment rooms, whirlpools, a sauna, steam room and relaxation suite. Discover also a fully-equipped gym and fitness studio offering a range of classes.
The OGH provides an exceptional culinary journey from hearty breakfast to light snacks and alfresco lunches to exquisite dining, all delightfully presented and prepared. Restaurants include The Brasserie, a light-filled conservatory overlooking the peaceful gardens, where the best local, organic ingredients are celebrated in a collection of seasonal menus. The Curry Room is an intimate dining venue where Indian cuisine can be enjoyed amidst relaxed and convivial surroundings, while The Olive Grove is St Peter Port’s only restaurant garden, and an ideal spot for a sun-dappled breakfast or delicious lunch during summer.
The hotel also has two bars, the Crown Club and the Centenary Bar. The stylish Crown Club has a very traditional and opulent feel, with red leather banquette seating and a wealth of antique brass fittings, while the Centenary Bar adjoins The Brasserie and opens out onto the leafy surrounds of The Olive Grove.
Each of the 62 bedrooms and suites are individually designed and beautifully in keeping with the historic nature of the building. You’re welcomed to a calm palette, striking artworks, sumptuous fabric covered walls and antiques that intermingle with modern comforts. Classic double rooms feature a double bed, ensuite bath and shower, plush bathrobes, slippers, digital interactive television, telephone, air-conditioning, free WiFi, complimentary bottled mineral water daily, tea & coffee making facilities and 24 hour room service. Classic rooms are cosy, so we do recommend only for stays of three nights or less.
If you would prefer a little more space to stretch out, then opt for either the larger queen double rooms or king/twin rooms. Some of the queen rooms also have an enclosed balcony for taking in those wonderful views whatever the weather, while the king/twin rooms are also available with either a sea view or sea view and balcony. The array of sumptuous suites range from studios up to the prestigious penthouse Governor’s Suite as well as beautifully appointed family suites.
