Castletown is a charming harbour town in the south of the island and a peaceful base for your stay.

With its narrow streets, quayside cottages and medieval castle, Castletown is one of the island’s best places to explore history. At its heart stands Castle Rushen, one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Europe. A short walk away you’ll find the Old House of Keys, once home to the Manx parliament, along with the Old Grammar School and the Nautical Museum. We recommended adding on a Heritage pass when staying in Castletown as access to these attractions (and many more around the island) is included.

The Isle of Man Steam Railway stops in Castletown on its route between Douglas and Port Erin, and regular buses connect the town with Douglas and the rest of the island.

Ronaldsway Airport is just outside the town, which makes Castletown especially handy if you’re flying in and if you’re arriving by ferry, Douglas is roughly a 20-minute drive away.
